Nashville dumpster permit rules
- Driveway or private property: no Metro right-of-way permit applies. Check your HOA rules.
- Street, sidewalk or alley (Metro right-of-way): you need a Trailer/Dumpster right-of-way permit from NDOT. The fee is $10 per day, up to $2,000. Placing a dumpster without a permit costs $30 per day in violation fees. These fees took effect July 1, 2026 under BL2026-1358.
- Apply through ePermits at least 2 business days before delivery. Fees are non-refundable.
- If the dumpster blocks a lane or the street, a temporary lane or street closure permit and traffic control may also be needed.
